日本Japan|c. 1937|35mm|B&W|4min
The film opens by presenting two distinct news segments. The first, from mid-May 1937, shows the Japanese-manufactured aircraft "Divine Wind" returning triumphantly to Taipei Airport after completing a 15,000-kilometer Eurasian flight, underscoring Taiwan's strategic importance. The second clip features a swimming competition between Taiwan and the Philippines. In 1936, Taiwan Governor-General Kobayashi Seizō launched the Southward Expansion Policy, which emphasized sporting exchanges like the one depicted in this newsreel.
The third segment, “Outside the Train Window” (汽車の窓から), captures fleeting glimpses of railway stations from a camera mounted at the rear of the train as it speeds along the tracks. Along the way, the train crosses the long Zhuoshui River Railway Bridge, passes Chiayi Station, and arrives at the Alishan Forest Railway boarding point. After passing the Tropic of Cancer marker, the train travels through the vast Jianan Plain and passes the Xinying Sugar Factory before finally arriving at Tainan Station.
The final segment, "A Trip to the Beach" (海に遊ばう), depicts the broad expanse of the former Keelung River channel after the train crosses the Keelung River Railway Bridge. Now vanished, the channel corresponds to today's Jihe Road and Section 4 of Chengde Road in Taipei’s Shilin district. The film concludes with footage of joyful travelers heading to a seaside bathing resort developed during the Japanese colonial period.
